 1. TiVo and other DVR systems are fast becoming a staple in American homes. Research and write a one-page paper describing how DVRs work. In particular, pay attention to the role of storage devices in a DVR. 

 2. Visit www.crucial.com and follow the wizard to answer the following questions: Is you computer capable of being upgraded? How many RAM slots are present in your system? What is the maximum amount of RAM each slot can hold? What type of RAM does your system need? 

 3.The textbook listed the Athlon FX 64 in tables 5B.2 and 5B.3. XP currently does not support the 64-bit processing of this chip. Research the steps needed to upgrade Windows to support 64-bit processing. 

 4. Using HTML, Flash or another Web tool, create a portfolio for your current classes. Include an assignment for each class, a copy of your resume and a listing of the courses you have taken. Post this portfolio on a web server. Send the professor the URL to the project. 

 5. Visit the online update center for your operating system. Print a list of the updates available for your computer. 

 6. There are three operating systems vying for control of your computer. These are Windows XP, Linux and Mac OS X. Research the three operating systems. Write a 1 or 2 page paper contrasting each OS. Include strengths and weaknesses of each operating system. Suggest when one OS is preferred over another OS. Find impartial statistics describing the extent of use. 

 7. Browse to www.goffice.com. Take the tour and create a sample document. Write a letter to your instructor detailing the reasons you should get an ‘A’ in the course. Be creative, but professional. When finished, email the .pdf file to the instructor. 8. Graphics can be generated from text and a simple Web program. Create a header and a button using your name. Visit www.flamingtext.com to create the images. Email the finished images to your instructor.
